ASP Prime Hang Loose Pro
Veteran globetrotter Brian Toth kicked off his 2012 ASP campaign in top form, finishing equal 3rd at the ASP Prime Hang Loose Pro after an week of excellent waves at Cacimbia Do Padre in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil.
Toth’s equal-3rd place performance marks his career-best result and his early success places the goofy-footer at No. 4 on the men’s ASP World Ranking to start off the season.
“It was a great start to the year,” Toth said. “I arrived here without much expectation and I made it to the Semis, which is my best result here in Noronha. I’m going to party a lot tonight and drink some ‘caipirinhas’ because there are no heats tomorrow.”
Toth looked at home in the powerful Cacimbia Do Padre surf and charged through the warm-water barrels reminiscent of his home in Puerto Rico. Toth’s Semifinals finish saw the Puerto Rican top a list of top-notch international talent including current ASP World Tour campaigner Raoni Moteiro (BRA), 29, Joan Duru (FRA), 22, and Dion Atkinson (AUS), 25, amongst others.
“This place is spectacular,” Toth said. “In Puerto Rico, there’s a similar wave, also tubular, but it’s a reef-break, not a beach-break like here. For me, there’s no other place like Cacimba do Padre. It’s been four or five years that I’ve been coming here and this is my best result ever. I love this place and it’s one of the best waves on the tour to compete in.”
The next ASP PRIME event of 2012 will be the Telstra Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River in Western Australia from March 20 through 25, 2012.
