This Thursday, February 23, 2012, the world’s best surfers will exchange their ocean wear for formal wear as they attend surfing’s night of nights, the 2012 ASP World Surfing Awards.
ASP Prime Hang Loose Pro

Veteran globetrotter Brian Toth kicked off his 2012 ASP campaign in top form, finishing equal 3rd at the ASP Prime Hang Loose Pro after an week of excellent waves at Cacimbia Do Padre in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil.
Toth’s equal-3rd place performance marks his career-best result and his early success places the goofy-footer at No. 4 on the men’s ASP World Ranking to start off the season.

Medi Veminardi – ASP Junior Champion

Medi Veminardi (REU) was crowned the 2011 ASP European Junior Champion and went on to finish at an excellent 3rd place in the Billabong World Junior Championships in Australia earlier this year.
The 21year-old from Reunion Island will now be representing Europe on the International stage in an ever growing field of talent. We caught up with Medi in between events in Australia.
John John Florence wins Volcom Pipe Pro

Hawaii’s John John Florence created one of professional surfing’s most dramatic moments today to claim his second consecutive Volcom Pipe Pro title, completely flipping the table on former Pipe Pro champion Jamie O’Brien (Hawaii) in the final seconds.
O’Brien had held the lead for 34 minutes and 45 seconds of the 35-minute final…and then it evaporated before his eyes.
Deactivation of midyear rotation 2012

The ASP Board of Directors has voted to deactivate the midyear rotation in 2012, citing scheduling uncertainties as the primary reason.

“This has been an extremely challenging decision for us to make,” Dave Prodan, ASP International spokesman, said.
ASP Anti-Doping Policy

ASP International has initiated a new Anti-Doping Policy for the world’s best surfers which will be activated for 2012 ASP World Title season.
“This policy represents a consensus between our surfers, events and administrators in evolving the sport of surfing to a more professional level,” Richard Grellman, ASP Executive Chairman, said.
Caio Ibelli dominates Billabong World Junior Championships

The first man-on-man elimination Round at the Billabong World Junior Championships Gold Coast got under way today in 2 foot (1 meter) runners at Burleigh Heads.

The conditions were tricky with good waves on offer, but surfers were forced to be selective and battle for the best waves.
