Billabong glaubt daran, dass ein Leben in Boardshorts besser ist. Die australische Marke bringt dieses positive Lebensgefühl nun nach Zentraleuropa und belohnt mit einem Gewinnspiel alle, die ebenfalls an Life’s Better in Boardshorts glauben.

Zentrales Element der Kampagne ist die brandneue Website www.lifesbetter.de. Auf der Internetseite finden die Besucher nicht nur das Registrierungsformular für das Gewinnspiel, sondern auch viele inspirierende Surf-Videos von und mit dem Billabong Team und jede Menge Informationen zu der aktuellen Billabong Boardshort Kollektion, die ab sofort online und in ausgewählten Boardsportshops in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz erhältlich ist.

Herzstück der Boardshort-Kollektion sind die Modelle der Recycler-Series, deren Material aus alten PET-Flaschen gefertigt ist. Dank dieser Initiative wurden mittlerweile über 39 Millionen Plastikflaschen wiederverwertet und in funktionale Boardshorts verwandelt.

Self Defense Family

Recorded at “Sundlaugin” in Mosfellsbær, Iceland the studio owned by the band Sigur Ros. The session was engineered by Birgir Jón “Biggi” Birgisson.

“Provocative” is one of the best words to use when describing Self Defense Family. With this release, vocalist/lyricist Patrick Kindlon and Company continue down their well worn path of satire on the human condition. Here they offer up two new soul searching tales, fueled by tongue in cheek wit and teeth clashed angst.

In both songs that make up this release, discordant melodies expand and contract around lackadaisical percussion, while Kindlon emotes and laments with true passion. There’s no question, Self Defense Family still wear their DC influence well, but now it’s tattered and torn; it’s taking on their own shape. Melodic and infectious, inspiring yet at the same time, uniquely depressing.

These songs are soundtrack for the solemn grey area in all of our lives. Another amazing release from one of the most interesting bands out there today.

The invitational event will host some of the UK and Europe’s best free surfers as well as well-known ASP competitors.

The Sea Sessions Surf Music Festival will once again be in the spotlight this summer with an incredible lineup of musical artists including the likes of Happy Mondays, Kaiser Chiefs, The Coronas or Rev Run from Run DMC.

The Musical event will be completed by multiple sporting activities and entertainment! The Beach Sports and Beach Olympics side of the festival will give you a unique occasion to come play various beach sports like soccer, rugby, volley-ball and hand-ball in a fun environment and with lots of prizes to win!

This dynamic event also gets its reputation from the action-sports entertainment side where the public can attend skateboard and BMX shows like the Adrenaline State High Octane BMX  and Stunt Bike Display. And off course this full weekend of action sports and music wouldn’t be just quite as fun if it wasn’t for the ASP Europe Specialty Event: the Barefoot Expression Session in association with Billabong.

For the second time, ASP Europe is proud to be associated to this exciting Specialty Event where the format of competition allows for all the surfers to go Big and put on a great show for the crowds. With a 3-day waiting period and an event that could run in as little as 2 hours, it gives an opportunity to the organizers to select the best possible option of tides and break to run their event and get the best waves on-offer around. Pete Craig, organizer of the event tells us a little more about the Expression Session.

Surfers from all over the UK and Ireland will try to battle it out with some of Europe’s best in a different format from a typical competition, where only progressive surfing will matter, for the pleasure of the public attending this event. The selection for this invite-only event has started and big names have already dropped from previous editions and local areas.

Red Bull Berg Linie 2012

Es war eine große Überraschung, dass Casey nach einem Jahr Verletzungspause aufs Siegertreppchen kam.

Er ist überglücklich und sichtlich stoked: “Ganz ehrlich, das ist das beste Gefühl überhaupt. Nach einer Saison mit Problemen an Grenzübergängen und Verletzungen, die mich davon abgehalten haben an Contests teilzunehmen, ist die Wildcard für Red Bull Berg Line das Beste was mir passieren konnte. Das ist der Start meines Comeback-Jahres.”

Zwei Wildcards gibt es noch zu holen und beim Battle um die letzten Startplätze werden die Rider beim SKS Slopestyle in Winterberg (18. Mai) noch einmal alles geben. Unmittelbar nach dem Contest werden die zwei Gewinner feststehen und können sich für den nächsten Tag bereit machen, die “Berg Line” zu rocken.

Die geladenen 26 Fahrer stehen bereits fest, die sich aufgrund ihrer Top-Platzierung bei der FMB World Tour 2011 qualifiziert haben. Darunter ist das Who´s Who der Slopestyle-Szene.

Sally Fitzgibbons wins Billabong Rio Pro 2012

Event No. 5 of 7 on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, the Billabong Pro Rio culminated in a thrilling fashion this afternoon with both Fitzgibbons and Ho exchanging the Final’s lead multiple times before the hooter sounded.

In need of a high 7-point ride with just minutes remaining in the heat, Fitzgibbons bashed a blowing lefthander on her backside, notching a 7.93 out of 10 to take the elite win, her second of the year.

Fitzgibbons, current No. 2 on the ASP Women’s WCT, has significantly narrowed the gap between her and current ASP frontrunner Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 24, but remained humble in regards to her chase for the 2012 ASP World Title.

Ho, who was ranked 12th on the ASP Women’s WCT ratings before the Billabong Rio Pro, had yet to advance beyond the Quarterfinals this year, but her Runner-Up finish to Fitzgibbons vaults the young Hawaiian to 9th in the world and restores her confidence to appropriate levels.

Carissa Moore (HAW), 19, last year’s Billabong Rio Pro winner and reigning ASP Women’s World Champion, was edged out of a hard-fought battle against Fitzgibbons in their high-scoring Semifinal affair. Both competitors posted big-scores in the dying seconds of the heat, but it was Fitzgibbons who earned the best of the exchange, handing Moore and equal 3rd place result.

Moore, who was dominant over the course of 2011, has yet to find a win this year, but remains focused on attaining a strong performance to end out the season.

Alessa Quizon (HAW), 18, Billabong Rio Pro wildcard, put in an incredible performance at this year’s event, tearing through the world’s best female surfers and finding her way into the Semifinals. Quizon put up a good fight against fellow Hawaiian Coco Ho, but ultimately fell during last minute exchange, finishing with a respectable equal 3rd place finish overall.

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7am local time for a possible recommencement to men’s Billabong Rio Pro competition. For all of the LIVE action log on to www.billabongpro.com.

Agnostic Front vocalist Roger Miret said: “With this year being our 30 year anniversary as a band with myself singing I wanted to play a special show here and there so I came up with the idea of playing our classic “Live At CBGB” set. This was the set front to back from our legendary live recording released in 1989. That was a magical time for the band and Hardcore was thriving at it’s best in 1988 when it was recorded. As an honorable family member with the Bridge Nine crew, I knew that the label should be home to this special re-release as much as CBGB was home to Agnostic Front. We are making this re-release very special for the record collector in a red, white and blue color and our timeless original cover embossed to add that punch it held back in 1989 as intense today in 2012! Along with this special re-release we are doing a handful of special shows in the U.S. to coordinate with the release. This will be a great release team effort with Agnostic Front and Bridge Nine… here it is – the glory days of 1988 New York City Hardcore as relevant today, tomorrow and forever!”

Originally released in 1989, Live at CBGB contains 19 of Agnostic Front’s most notorious tracks. Allmusic said: “Recorded in the flesh at New York’s punk rock Mecca CBGB in August of 1988, Live at CBGB captures the band in all its ferocious glory. As Miret announces ‘this is the title track from our first album Victim in Pain, the song’s also called ‘Victim in Pain’,” the band is off. ‘Pain’ is quickly followed by ‘Public Assistance’ and later a song that calls for unity between punks and skins, ‘United Blood.’ The recording is highlighted by the band’s hardcore anthem, ‘Crucified’. Beneath all the band’s political lambasting and calls for unity (although many of their shows were anything but), there’s a good musical lesson to be learned from all of this. Because, if you’ve ever been just the slightly bit curious about what NYHC is all about, this release is a solid launching point.”   We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

The music video was filmed while the guys were on tour by director and close friend Sam Link (Sleeping With Sirens, Decoder).

Singer and lyricist Chris Nutting checked in from the road to say: “This video was seriously so fun to make with Sam Link. He had so many great ideas for this video that it couldn’t have turned out any better. We literally drove around some small town in Pennsylvania looking for a great place to film, and found some run down storage facility that looked perfect. This was our first performance/ acting video so we really weren’t sure what to expect, but it turned out great and we had a good time filming it.”

Girls Pro 2012

Bereits zum dritten Mal begrüßt das Surf-Dorado die besten Surferinnen der Welt zu diesem 6-Star-Event der ASP Tour. Die Elite der Wellenreiterinnen wird sich auf den legendären Beach Breaks von Seignosse und Hossegor messen und dabei jede Menge Style und Athletik beweisen.

Der Swatch Girls Pro 2012 ist eines der größten Treffen der weiblichen Surfszene weltweit. Auf dem ASP-Tourkalender der Surferinnen gehört er zu den wichtigsten Terminen. Die Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) wurde 1983 gegründet und richtet seitdem jährlich die Surf-Weltmeisterschaften für Damen und Herren aus. Durch die professionelle und medienwirksame Arbeit der ASP hat der Sport in den letzten Jahren ungeheuer an Popularität gewonnen.

Ihr Motto lautet: “Die weltbesten Surfer in den weltbesten Wellen”. Auch beim Swatch Girls Pro 2012 in den Wellen von Hossegor-Seignosse trotzen die internationalen Surfstars der Schwerkraft und zeigen auf ihren Surfboards progressive Tricks. Aber die Wellenreiterinnen rocken nicht nur auf den Wellen – sie injizieren dem Surfsport auch eine gesunde Portion weiblichen Styles, der auf Wasser wie zu Lande große Lebensfreude und Spaß am Sport transportiert.

Beim Swatch Girls Pro 2012 werden über hundert Weltklasse-Surferinnen am Start sein – von aufstrebenden Talenten bis zu den großen Stars der Szene. Zu letzteren zählen die Titelverteidi­gerin und Zweitplatzierte der ASP Women’s World Tour 2011, Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), sowie die viermalige ASP-Weltmeisterin Stephanie Gilmore (AUS).

Ein ganz großes Talent ist dagegen die erst 19-jährige Courtney Conlogue (USA). Die Kalifornierin aus Orange County liegt derzeit auf Rang 3 der ASP Women’s World Tour und konnte kürzlich den Event in Northern Beaches, Australien, für sich entscheiden. Dazu gesellen sich junge, aber bereits etablierte Stars wie die 21-jährigen Coco Ho (HAW) und Pauline Ado (FRA) oder die 20-jährige Justine Dupont (FRA). Ebenfalls zum Favoritenkreis gehören Bruna Schmitz (BRA) und Rosy Hodge (RSA).

Seignosse Hossegor liegt im Südwesten Frankreichs an der Atlantikküste und gilt als Mekka des Surfens in Europa. Die “Côte d’Argent” bietet mit 230 Kilometern Sandstrand die längste Kette erstklassiger Beach Breaks in ganz Europa. An welchem der vielen möglichen Spots die Wettkämpfe stattfinden, wird erst unmittelbar vor dem Event entschieden, um den Teilnehmerinnen die optimalen Bedingungen bieten zu können.
