Danke an all die seligen Fans!

Jeff Soto's stunning artwork comes to Arbor's Hybrid GT Skateboard · 30.07.10

The Arbor Collective is pleased to announce that the vivid work of high-profile artist Jeff Soto is featured on the new GT Hybrid skateboard which is part of the Concrete Series of all-new 2010/11 line.

His profound visions and fears, nostalgia of his youth, and themes of love, lust, and hope creates a shocking portrayal on this magnificent deck. “I…like so many others, have been a fan of Jeff Soto’s work for a long time,” says Joel Woodman, art director for Arbor. “I remember going to his senior show at Art Center and thinking wow…this guy is going to be a rock star. In my mind, Jeff’s paintings are some of the most visually compelling work out there and we feel very excited and honored to have partnered with him on the Hybrid GT.”

The GT Hybrid is Arbor’s multi-dimensional long skateboard that was designed with a wide mid-section, concave profile and rounded kick tail/nose to deliver longboard stability and real flat-ground/park performance. Completes include: Arbor 65mm 78A Durometer Street Series Wheels, ABEC 5 Bearings, 10” Gullwing trucks and standard grip-tape.

About artist Jeff Soto
Through striking visual imagery, Jeff Soto communicates profound visions and fears, nostalgia of his youth, and themes of love, lust, and hope. Environmental issues also take precedent for Soto, who is concerned with conflict of humans trying to harness, or take advantage of nature. His paintings exude this tension, as robotic creatures duel, organic tentacles and flower bouquets thrive, and black smog looms amidst floating, ominous skulls. In 2002, Soto graduated with Distinction from Art Center College of…

About Arbor Collective
Arbor was founded in 1995 on the assertion that solutions to many of today’s most difficult snow, skate, and apparel design challenges exist in the natural world. For 14 years, Arbor has built on the belief of replacing, environmentally harmful materials with ecologically based, natural alternatives. Arbor’s goal is to create a higher level of function and relevance in the most responsible way possible. The end result must be improved style and performance, with significantly reduced impact on the environment. “We all need clean air to skate, clean water to surf, and snow to ride…”

Attack! Attack! - New Album on Hassle Records · 29.07.10

Attack! Attack! can now announce details of a new home and a new album. The Welshmen, who recently released the single ‘Not Afraid’, have confirmed that they have now signed to Hassle records – home to Alkaline Trio, Cancer Bats, We Are The Ocean.

The release of their huge, Romesh Dodangoda (Kids In Glass Houses, The Blackout) produced, second album will be called ‘The Latest Fashion’ and is set for release on 24th September.

‘The Latest Fashion’ is an 11-track record packed full of soaring choruses which is all killer from start to finish. The band has already won the hearts of commercial radio with the likes of Fearne Cotton, Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe championing the band on the airwaves. The albums dynamism is a huge accolade to their song writing and has moments of un-controllable sing-a-longs sat next to muscular guitar riffs with the finishing touch of frontman, Neil Starr’s, faultless vocals.

Bassist, Will Davies, exclaimed about the signing and the new record, “We are all so happy and excited to be signing to a label that we have a lot of respect for! It’s amazing that we’re sharing the same label as Alkaline Trio and The Get up Kids. We’re really looking forward to the future with Hassle, roll on the new album! This album is the beginning of the end of pop punk comparisons! We set out to make a powerful rock record that shows us for who the band that we are and to bring across an aspect of our live energy. It’s reignited the desire in us to get our music across to as many people possible in the world and to blow them away, and we’re stoked we have a label like Hassle on board!”

‘The Latest Fashion’ is the record we’ve been waiting to hear from Attack! Attack! and it’s delivered with such precise execution it’s difficult to see any other UK band deliver such a hook-laden gem this year!

Tracklisting:
01. Everybody Knows
02. No Excuses
03. My Shoes
04. Blood On My Hands
05. Seen Me lately
06. Latest Fashion
07. Nemesis
08. Best Mistake
09. We’re Not The Enemy
10. Not Afraid
11. No Tomorrow

Attack! Attack! are touring the UK and Europe in October / November / December.

Burton New Zealand Open 2010 · 28.07.10

2010 Burton NZ Open
10 – 14 August, 2010

Invitations are out for one of New Zealand’s most-anticipated snow sports events – the eighth annual Burton New Zealand Open.

New Zealand is the first stop for the prestigious international snowboarding competition – and the event marks the start of the Burton Global Open Series and TTR World Tour for the 2010/2011 season.

The world’s snowboarding elite will again congregate at the Cardrona Valley near Wanaka, where they will show off their talents in a series of gruelling challenges.

Watch the live webcast here!

Hundreds of spectators and holidaymakers are expected to watch the event at Cardrona, where it will be open for viewing to the public.

Cardrona ready to host
Cardrona event manager Reuben Yeoman says that the South Island ski field is looking forward to hosting the event for the second year running.

“The team at Cardrona is 100 percent behind this event, and their commitment to snowboarding was evident last year. The combined effort is providing riders with the facilities and formats they require to perform at their best, and it’s great to be a part of such a progressive event and global series.”

The Burton NZ Open offers prize money of $50,000, which will be divided equally between the men and women’s slopestyle and halfpipe categories. Official training for the event starts on 10 August, followed by an opening party at Lonestar in Wanaka.

Pre-qualifiers and qualifiers start on 11 August. Invited riders are seeded directly to the semifinals stage, which starts on August 13. The event concludes with the halfpipe semifinals and finals on 14 August.

Top names at Open
International riders are turning up in droves for the 2010 Burton NZ Open, including defending women’s slopestyle champion Jamie Anderson and defending halfpipe champion Kelly Clark, both from the US.

Other famous international names rising up to the challenge include Canadians Charles Reid, Mark Sollors and Mark McMorris; Japanese rippers Kazuhiro Kokubo, Ryo Aono, Daisuke Murakami and Kohei Kudo; Norwegians Tore Holvik, Stale Sandbech and Gjermund Braaten; and Americans Chas Guldemond, Sage Kotsenburg, Jack Mitrani and Louie Vitto.

Some of the women confirmed are Kjersti Buaas and Lin Haug (Norway), Enni Rukajarvi (Finland), Rana Okada (Japan) and Elizabeth Beerman (USA).

Kiwis Stef Zeestraten and Shelly Gotlieb are also tipped to be strong contenders in the slopestyle section of the competition.

Cardrona – Wanaka
Wanaka – in the South Island’s southern lakes region, and styled as the world’s first ‘Lifestyle Reserve’ – is a year-round outdoor playground.

The Cardrona Valley – with the ski resorts of Treble Cone, Cardrona, SnowFarm and SnowPark – is recognised as one of New Zealand’s premier ski destinations. The resorts have stunning lake and mountain views, all within easy reach of Wanaka.

This season Australasia’s first internationally-certified downhill course opened at the Cardrona Ski Resort.

The FIS-certified ‘Goldrush’ course is phase one of a NZ$3m upgrade that will add 150 hectares of new slopes and increase snow-making capacity.

Other new developments for 2010 include the Valley View quad chairlift, a 40m tunnel and additional car parking to cope with visitor capacity.

Cardrona field manager Gary Husband says the ski resort is always looking for ways to improve the snow experience for its fans.

“A lot of advanced off-piste skiing will be available with the addition of the new chairlift, and it also allows us to run downhill races that are certified to International Ski Federation standards.”
